Myriad Roman/Italic - font licensing issue?

$

Dear all,

I'm asking your help regarding a small issue with the Myriad Roman and Myriad Italic font.

Today I opened an "old" document I created in a previous Illustrator version (CS 6). But when I wanted to save it into a pdf file, a bad message told me some parts of the file can't be saved due to font restriction: The font Myriad-Roman could not be embedded in the PDF document because of licensing restrictions. Stroke text will not be visible.

How can I manage this? I have a lot of documents with Myriad Roman or Italic in it, so this is very disturbing for me right now... :-/

Thanks in advance fo your help

Copy/Pasting from Hebrew font in PDF

Hi -

I'm trying to copy and paste text from a PDF so I can edit and analyze the contents.  The file was created in Hebrew. It is set of Israel's election results and available on their government website: http://www.moin.gov.il/Apps/PubWebSite/mainmenu.nsf/4DF815EA4AC4E503C2256BA6002EE732/8E408 A044EE1D3EDC2257520002817B8/$FILE/News.pdf.

Under document properties, the fonts listed are Helvetica (standard) and two unknown, embedded subsets (TTE1C42600t00 and TTE1DA2290t00).

I have tried:

- Copy and pasting text from Reader 9 --> opening in Word and Excel, changing around fonts

- Copy and pasting text from Acrobat 8 Professional --> opening in Word and Excel, changing around fonts

- Right-click, open table as spreadsheet

- Exporting as .doc, .TIFF, PostScript, .txt, .html

- Export as image, running OCR (trialware Hebrew OCR program I used did not pick up all characters correctly)

- Adobe website mentions an Adobe Reader Middle Eastern Edition 7, but when I go to download it, it takes me to the regular Reader v9 page

Can anyone think of a way to extract the data from this document so that it is editable?

Any help would be appreciated!

Legally owned and installed Helvetica not showing up on Windows 7 Adobe CS3 Master Collection

I have owned and used a licensed version of Helvetica for a number of years now (typing with one arm since the purchase cost me an arm AND a leg, hehe) - I recently "upgraded" to Windows 7 and reinstalled all of my fonts which all show up other than Helvetica. Helvetica DOES show up in other applications such as Office Word, but not any of my Adobe products. These are Type 1 fonts.

A nice font for a stylized but proper CV?

Hi!

I'm currently between jobs and is looking for a nice font to spice up my CV a bit. I don't wanna go with Helvetica, but at the same time I need something with transparent design.

I have worked with design professionally for four years, but have just recently started to really take an interest in fonts.

Any suggestions would be helpful to get me started!

Thanks in advance.

Most examples I've come across range between 7-8pt. Whereas my client insists he had never seen anything less than 9pt+. I would love to get some feedback on this.

Font Offering Appealing Numeric Fractions

$

I'll be taking a job that requires insertion into text of a considerable number of fractions.

What font pallet offers fractional notation down through 1/16,1/32,1/64 etc? Fractions should have a superscript numerator over a subscript denomenator, separated by a backslash, instead of a horizontal M-dash.

I'll be working largely in MS Word 2004 (Mac) and Acrobat 9 Pro.

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to get a dot below the letters H, t, and s in Garamond Premier Pro. The combining mark doesn't seem to work, and the specific glyphs don't exist. Any ideas?

Most other fonts seem to work, e.g.:

Ḥ ṭ ṣ

Kind regards,

Any ideas about either a serif or non serif font that goes well with Bauhaus?

Thanks,

Fonts from ArcMap to Illustrator

I believe the issue here is more Microsoft or ESRI's handling of fonts and fontnames and realise the Adobe way of handling all this seems much better at this type of thing but maybe some will be able to shed some light here if I don't get anything here I'll try the Illy forum for removing the faux-italic from Garamond Bold Italic once it's in Illustrator. Or should that now be Garamond Bold Italic Oblique. ;)

We are having some issues with getting correct fonts from ESRI's ArcMap. I believe a lot of the code of Arc is based on Microsoft code and it handles font selection in the Microsoft office (as oposed to Adobe) stylebuttons for bold and italic and seperate font entries for say light and bold. To get a semi bold (if in the font) you either select light and the bold button or the regular and the bold button.

PDF availible for anyone interested of the fonts onscreen appearance in ArcMap (Screenshots) and in Illustrator after after export to Ai from ArcMap. Font windows (screenshots) for these fonts in both applications are shown.

If we open up a fresh instance of Illustrator the typeface appear correctly on screen and in the font window.

If we the open FontTest.ai (an old version of Ai8 I believe) generated by ArcMap each font of the typeface appears on a separate line in the font chooser with the weight (and italic if italic) in both the typeface (top) and the font (bottom) panel of the Illustrator font window.

If we then close the document and create a new Illustrator document the fonts are still viewing incorrectly as above in the Illustrator font window.

If we close and open a new instance of Illustrator the fonts are back to normal.

Now the interesting bit. If we save the file FontTest.ai as a cs3 version and open this in our fresh instance of Illustrator the fonts are back to how they should be. Problem fixed except the faux-italic on the bold italic is still applied.

I decided to test in OpenOffice but that caused more (worse) problems. Will test in Word when I get to work.

Accents on Capital Letters?

Hi,

Are you supposed to use accent marks on capital letters?  I'm creating a design (for a graphic-design class) about the painter Salvador Dali (the Ii in his last name has an accent mark on it).  I'm going to use the name DALI in all-caps.  I'm not sure if the accent is used in all caps.  Does anyone know?

Thanks, Phyllis

I recently discovered a new typeface called Archer, by Hoefler and Frerer-Jones.

I really like it, but I think it could have limited uses?

I talk about it on my blog:  http://carlyhitchcock.wordpress.com/

WHat do people think?

Worth the money? Or just another display face?

I have created an information sheet using MS Trebuchet on the Mac in InDesign and exported to PDF. When viewing the PDF the font does not display correctly, some area looks bold. If you change the percentage zoom page size the font changes. It look fine at 130% but at 134% some of the sentences in paragraphs look bold?

Hello all, I've recently come across a problem using After Effects...

My font is slightly blurry when zoomed in on, almost like it's blending when it shouldn't be (I don't know terminology, sorry lol). I just got After Effects yesterday and this problem was not occuring.

This is what I want my font to look like:

This is what it looks like:

My resolution is on Full and I haven't changed any settings, it was like this when I opened it up this morning! Help!

Adobe KaiTi's license

$

I'm having a hard time trying to understand how Adobe's fonts can and cannot be distributed.

In particular, I would like to use Adobe KaiTi for my desktop software. The font file itself will not be distributed but the outlines will be embedded and encrypted within a database. Then the software reads this database, displays a character and show how the character should be drawn. The user cannot type or save text using the font. Does Adobe KaiTi's license allow this?

Edit: for information the font embeddability on Windows is "Editable" which means "can be embedded within content that can be edited by the user."
